Uterus Tonics for the First Trimester

Miscarriage affects many women and can be a devastating experience for both partners.  There are many possibilities for miscarriage but often it is unexplained and is simply the body’s way of rejecting either an unhealthy egg or unhealthy sperm.  Other common causes are an incompetent cervix, hormonal imbalances or the effects of pesticides and other pollutants.  Herbal Remedies cannot prevent the affects of a cervical dysfunction or protect against pollutants but they can help to balance hormones and tone the uterus.

If you have experienced miscarriage then here are some herbal remedies that can be used to support and tone the womb:

False Unicorn Root  is a wonderful uterine tonic that can be used when a woman experiences repeated miscarriages.  If possible begin using 3 drops of the herbal tincture four to five times a day beginning one month before conception.  If you have already conceived use the tincture as described daily and in both situations the tincture can be taken throughout the first trimester.

Black Haw Root Bark has been used traditionally to prevent miscarriage and it is suggested that one to two cups of the tea be taken at the beginning of the pregnancy.  It may be used throughout the pregnancy.

Any bleeding or spotting is seen as the threat of a miscarriage in pregnancy.  If miscarriage does threaten then try Wild Yam Root.  There are glycosides in the herb that help the body to manufacture hormones required to maintain pregnancy.  Drink ½ a cup of a strong infusion every 30 minutes and you should notice results on the first day if it is taking effect.
