Herbal Remedies can be included in your routine treatment of sciatica.  Here’s some key herbs that can be considered:

Devil’s Claw

Devil’s Claw is most widely known in its treatment of arthritis but it can be used in low doses to treat sciatica.

Oil of Wintergreen

Containing methyl salicylate oil of wintergreen can be used to treat rheumatism, arthritis, sciatica and aching muscles.  Apply topically.

St. John’s Wort

Using St John’s Wort in oil form can ease pain.  Rub into the skin before bedtime.

Chamomile

Chamomile has calming affects on both the mind and the body and is great for healing pain in the muscle tissues.  Use chamomile tea topically.

Turmeric

Turmeric is often thought of to deal with injuries, healing wounds and sciatica along with general pain management.  It is widely used in Asia and has good results.  It can be eaten daily or mixed with milk.  Alternatively mix with garlic, leek and butter oil and apply topically.

Jamaican Dogwood

This is best selected when the nerves have been compressed in cases like sciatica.

Garlic and Mustard Oil

Garlic mixed with mustard is a great pain reliever.  Put the garlic and mustard oil in a pan and heat until the garlic burns.  Then cool and massage the affected part regularly.
