Lungwort the Herbal Remedy
Native to Europe this herbal plant grows in shady grassland areas and hedgerows.
It is known officially by its generic name of ‘pumonaria’. It is called Lungwort because the leaves of the herbal plant look mottled, just like a bodies lungs.
It was most popular in the sixteenth and seventeenth century Europe.
The herbal remedy was used for treating coughs, sore throats, and bronchitis and lung complaints.
It can also be used to treat diarrhoea or haemorrhoids.
In the western world it is not used much. However it is an ingredient in the alcoholic drink vermouth.
Other names: Jerusalem cowslip, soldiers and sailors.
The leaves of the herbal plant should be collected around the month of March to September.
Method:
Take a cup of boiling water and pour over a couple of teaspoons of the dried herbal plant and leave for fifteen minutes. This liquid should be taken three to four times a day.
Note: Other Herbal Remedies that can be used to help lung conditions are Coltsfoot and Lobelia.
