When suffering from heartburn you need something that stops the pain fast.  Symptoms can vary from a burning sensation either in the chest or throat; you may experience a bitter or sour-like taste in your mouth; some sufferers have difficulty swallowing and some people can even experience coughing or wheezing.

There are a multitude of medications and drugs available by prescription or across the counter but what if you’d like to try alternative remedies to cool the burn?

The three most popular herbs are chamomile, peppermint and ginger.  They are known as carminative herbs which mean they possess properties that aid the relief of indigestion and can ease irritation located in the intestines. 

Chamomile 

Traditionally chamomile is renowned for its calming action on the mind and body.  It has a high calcium content which gives it the ability to minimize stomach acids.  It eases esophageal irritation and can help the sufferer to digest properly.

Ginger

Historically ginger has been used by herbalists to treat an array of stomach issues.  With its anti-inflammatory and anti-nausea properties it’s a valuable remedy for heartburn sufferers.  In addition to these qualities Ginger is also an excellent for heartburn as it promotes good digestion by stimulating intestinal movement. 

Peppermint

Peppermint is well known as a good digestion remedy.  It calms the stomach and heals indigestion.  In conjunction with caraway fruit it has a similar action on the symptoms of heartburn as ginger and chamomile.

So there’s no excuse not to chemical free on your quest to sooth your heartburn!
