Bad breath is caused by the bacteria that naturally live in our mouths.  These bacteria get busy eating any food residue in the mouth and the process releases sulphur.  These bacteria are likely to make their home in the cracks and recesses between your teeth or on the tongue itself.  Alternatively gum infections can cause offensive odours as can diabetes, constipation, sinusitis, rotting teeth and a poor respiratory or digestive system.  What ever the cause it is an extremely embarrassing ailment that can affect the sufferer’s confidence.

There are some common sense measures you can take to prevent bad breath:

  • Brush your teeth thoroughly twice daily and ensure you floss and clean your tongue.
  • Avoid stressful situations as this can weaken other systems in the body which can then lead to bad breath
  • Always eat a nutritional balanced diet and eat regularly.
  • Drink plenty of water to keep the digestive system functioning optimally and to prevent the mouth from becoming dry
  •  A useful herbal remedy to prevent bad breath is holy basil.  Chew the leaves to treat mouth infections and bad breath
  • Clove is a strong anti-bacterial agent and is great for fighting bad breath
