Sea Buckthorn Berry the Natural Cosmetic

Filed under: Home Remedies — Robert @ 12:53 pm

You can help your skin and stay looking younger by looking at vitamins that will help to protect the skin.
Skin protection is found in using the pulp of the Sea Buckthorn Berry that has been used by herbalists for years and is now emerging as one of the modern bio-active substances that can be found in the oil from the seed and the pulp.  It is often used for creams and sun care products.

It has been used in research as an indicator that the products including creams that are used in dermatological clinics are helping with the regeneration of skin cells.  This has the effect of healing wounds and building up the skin tissue.

Sea buckthorn has beta-carotene in it which is a reddish colour so beware if using the cream as a tanning lotion unless you reduce the strength you will end up looking like a tangerine. There is a large cosmetic industry marketing the Herbal Remedies that can be useful in anti-aging creams, however, it is possible to use the herb on its own as one of your own Home Remedies .

If you are buying any product, check the ingredients and use a skin test on yourself if unsure of any allergic reactions.

The Knowledge of Folk Medicine

Filed under: Home Remedies — Jane @ 12:17 pm

Folk medicine has been passed through generations of families with each generation adding a little piece of the wondrous information that is still helping the physical body to overcome illnesses today and to let our bodies heal with out using prescribed modern medicines.

In earlier days, it was a testing time of using plant and small herbs that appeared to be safe if animals ate them as they freely wandered around the countryside.

Healing ceremonies were held regularly by shamans and medicine men that belonged to the Native American Indian tribes who was held responsible for the results and held in high esteem if they ‘performed the cures’.

One of the products that have carried through to the healing of today is a plant called the Aloe Vera plant. This plant is well known today for its healing properties first used in South Africa and was made popular when it was discovered that the healing properties were extremely useful in the treatment of burns.  The method used was to strip off the green leaf and squeeze the green gel liquid over the affected area and it would alleviate the scalding and cool the skin.

The Aloe Vera plant is now used as a home remedy and its anti-fungal effect has also been one of the reasons that tests are being done to see if there are inhibitory effects on cancer cells.

There are now products all over the world using aloe vera plant extracts in their products to promote the healing effect it as on the physical body.

A ‘cuppa’ tea for Asthma sufferers

Filed under: Home Remedies — Robert @ 9:40 am

Asthma is a chronic ailment which is kept under control by prescription and these are given to patients by their doctor as there can be serious breathing conditions for the asthma sufferer if it is not kept under control and can result in death, although thankfully this is quite rare nowadays.

However, there are a wide range of medicines and nebulizers in the medical market and finding the right one that is suitable can also be costly, therefore a cure for people suffering with this condition is of high importance.

There is a cup of tea that seems to be having a positive effect on patients, and the tea in question is Chamomile, a herb that gives relief due to terponoids which can act as a base for the chest conditions as it can act as an ant-inflammatory when the tea is drunk.

The Chinese have been using another herbal remedy called Astragulus which also has anti-inflammatory properties which helps the immune system to strengthen and this will prevent the allergies from causing the asthma attack that can occur at any time.

There are other Herbal Remedies such as Lobelia and Nettle that can help with respiratory problems that can be used as a home remedy.

If you are going to try a nice ‘cuppa’ it is advisable to inform your doctor.

Home remedies for the skin

Filed under: Home Remedies — Jane @ 11:23 am

You can give yourself a home remedy treatment for tired skin by using a long handled brush and choosing to add a few drops of essential aromatherapy oil to the bristles and step in to the shower ready to combat the skin that is feeling tired and in need of a quick treatment.

Use the brush by making long sweeping strokes all over the body avoiding the areas that may have broken skin or sensitive due to sunburn and when you have finished if you are feeling brave try a cold spray of water before you step out of the shower.

One of the areas in the body that can make a difference in the way the skin looks is the lymphatic system and it is advised by practioners and doctors to drink more water. The lumpy bits of the skin in the areas of thighs, arm and legs are generally known as cellulite and we complain the skin reminds us of an orange however this can be helped by the ‘dry’ brushing as part of the daily routine. The lymphatic system is a liquid that needs to be eliminated of the toxins that cause the skin to forms lumps and the use of regular dry brushing will help to reduce this.

One of the ways too help the skin is by reducing the amount of coffee, fizzy drinks and replace with water fresh fruit or herbal teas.

Lavender the modern home remedy - home-grown in England

Filed under: Home Remedies — Jane @ 3:09 pm

The essential oil that has become popular is the lavender plant. It used to be restricted to a few drops of it being used by Aunties for their handkerchiefs in the past. Lavender is now a sought-after ingredient in aromatherapy Herbal Remedies. Medicine today has moved forward and is used for both antiseptic and calming properties.

Farms in France used to cultivate the most of the plants and information of the best conditions to grow the plants was scarce as it is not usually found in English gardens especially growing in vast amounts.
Things have changed due to a farm in the village of Snowshill in the Cotswolds and they are now able to specialise in the growing of the lavender plant as we know it and a pink variety as well. Last year the Cotswolds suffered with floods and it was reported the water running by the houses had lavender heads on the top, a peaceful sight in a stressful situation. However the crops survived and it is business as usual.

The farm workers collect the stems and the heads and transported to the distillery and steam is made from rainwater and sent through pipes. Once the temperature has reached boiling point and the oil evaporates into the steam. It is piped through a condenser into a separator, from which it can be collected. The pure essential oils then have to be stored and aged, like wine, for six to nine months before they can be made into the final products. One of the main enemies of the farm is the rosemary beetle or wetness.

You can recognise the farm not only with the buzzing of the peaceful bees but the sight of a special lavender harvester, which cuts the plants into the dome shapes we are used to seeing.

Products like soaps, massage oils, even sweeties can be found in the herbal remedies shops that are on the high street or the craft fairs all over the country.

Beat Sweaty Feet Naturally

The summer heat can bring along with it a personal hygiene issue that can be at best embarrassing and at worst distressing to the sufferer.  Standing up all day in closed shoes can cause your feet to sweat more than usual and cause a strong odour when the shoes are removed.

The odour isn’t due to dirty feet or due to the sweat directly.  It’s the bacteria that feeds on the sweat and dead skin that cause a gas to be emitted.  Dark, moist environments are ideal homes for this type of bacteria and they can quickly multiply.
