Black haw has other names it is known by such as snowball, American sloe or stagbush. It is a tree or shrub that can be found in the eastern parts of America.

This herbal plant has dark green leaves with white flowers that will bear fruit. It has amazing colours of a reddish purple and when turned into jams or preserves is wonderful to look at and to eat.

There are drinks and sauces available with this herbal plant in as an ingredient, which can be used for culinary purposes.

The women in Native American tribes used this plant to help them in their pregnancies and childbirth. It forms an important part of the tribe’s Herbal Remedies for the relief of period pains and miscarriages, especially if the woman was known to have a history of not being able to carry a baby until birth.

Other uses for this herbal remedy are for asthma, labour pains, nervousness, colic and the lowering of high blood pressure.

Methods that can be used:

1. Use three times a day in the form of a tincture.
2. Boil water in a pan, add some of the dried herb and when brought to boiling point, let it simmer for eight minutes. If using this method, drink the liquid three times a day.
