Are Organic Vitamins Better?
Organic is the latest marketing money spinner and this has now extended to the availability of organic vitamins. We’ve been pre-conditioned to believe that organic is better – but are organic vitamins any better than their synthetic counterparts?
Organic multi vitamins are vitamin tablets or capsules made from real food that is stuffed with natural vitamins, minerals and enzymes. The belief is that as our bodies are designed to extract vitamins from food these organic vitamin tablets are better for us than those made up of chemically manufactured vitamins.
It is said that organic whole food vitamins are better at providing the balance of nutrients required for optimal growth and body function and are retained easily by our bodies to ensure they are fully made use of. This is in contrast to synthetic vitamins which are not as formulate as whole foods and often need other additional substances adding to help us absorb them.
However organic vitamins are less potent than the synthetic option but this downside is balanced by the fact that our bodies absorb and retain the vitamins much easier.
Check the label to see if the vitamin has been organically derived. For example Vitamin A will be derived from fish oil if its organic rather than acetate or palmitate. Other vitamins should state:
Vitamin B1 Yeast or Rice Bran
Vitamin C Citrus Foods, Rose Hips, Acerola or Wild Berries
Vitamin K Alfalfa
Vitamin D Cod or other fish oils
